FIREFIGHTERS have issued safety advice following a blaze in a home in Maidenbower yesterday (Sunday) that was caused by a candle.
Two fire engines were sent to the house on Blackett Road at 2.48pm after a piece of paper from a printer set alight on a candle in the home's dining room.
The blaze was out when firefighters arrived so they simply inspected the scene.
One person was treated for smoke inhalation by paramedics.
Firefighters were away from the scene at 2.50pm.

Work under way on building helipad on hospital roof

171 homes and new hotel set to be built opposite Asda
PLANS to build 171 homes and a 51-bedroom hotel on a site currently used as a car park have been submitted.
Sloane Crawley Properties Limited has put forward an application to build on the plot of land on Ifield Road opposite Asda.
If approved the work would mean 45 Ifield Road would have to be bulldozed.

Former music shop in West Green set to be turned into café
A FORMER music shop could become a café after a change of use planning application was submitted to the council.
The plan is to create a café where Ackerman Music used to be based on West Green Parade.
The music shop, which had been open for ten years, closed last summer.
Its owners decided to leave the town and relocate the business to Hove.
The application was submitted to Crawley Borough Council on February 19, with a decision expected to be made on April 16.

Large oak tree falls onto community centre roof causing...
A COMMUNITY centre has been closed after a large oak tree fell onto its roof.
The tree fell onto Tilgate Community Centre, in Shackleton Road, on Sunday night causing significant damage to the small hall.
Nobody was injured when the tree came down.
Tree surgeons were at the scene yesterday (Monday) and they estimate that it will take three days to completely remove the treee.
The community centre, which is home to Tykes Pre-school, is closed in the meantime.

A MAN was taken to hospital to have his ribs x-rayed after being stamped on in an attack in the early hours of Saturday.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the assault.

Long delays on M23 after serious crash
LONG delays of over an hour are being reported on the M23 this morning after a serious crash involving several vehicles.
The multi-vehicle collision happened on the northbound carriageway and two lanes have been closed near junction 7 (the M25) and there is very slow moving traffic all the way down to Gatwick.
Congestion is also building on the southbound carriageway of the M23, with delays of up to 25 minutes.

Man taken to hospital with head injuries after assault
THE VICTIM of an assault was rushed to hospital in the early hours of today (Wednesday).
Paramedics in the air ambulance's road vehicle were sent out to treat the adult male at 3.22am.
The man was taken to East Surrey Hospital by South East Coast Ambulance Service suffering from head, upper arm and hand injuries .
At this time it is unclear where the assault happened in Crawley.

A SOLAR eclipse will darken the sky above Crawley next month and the chair of the town's astronomy group has warned sky-gazers wanting to take in the phenomenon that it could cause them to go blind.
The Moon will pass between the Sun and the Earth causing it to block out the sunlight and create a visual spectacle on March 20.

A MAN has admitted stealing mackerel fillets worth £2.21 from Asda on Pegler Way.
Sheridan Booth, 48, pleaded guilty at Crawley Magistrates' Court on February 11 to taking the fish from the town centre supermarket on January 21.
