A POLICE spokesman has confirmed that the "bomb" discovered near the A23 (London Road) this afternoon (Friday) is in fact "a piece of old metal".
The road has now reopened.
Police had issued a press release about the discovery of the "wartime shell".
But the one-and-a-half foot "shell" has been found to be just a "section of metal" by the Army bomb disposal team that had been called out.
