IT has emerged this afternoon that "murder" victim Joao Esteves had only arrived in Britain last Wednesday - four days before he was found unconscious in a Three Bridges alleyway. It is understood that Mr Esteves, 45, arrived in Britain at Gatwick Airport on a flight from Portugal. He returned to the airport two days later and began sleeping rough while he tried to find a way to pay for a ticket home. He was spoken to on several occasions by Gatwick staff and Sussex Police...

AN air ambulance has been called out after a young boy was knocked down by a car in Ifield this afternoon. The incident was outside the shops in Ifield Drive at about 3.30pm. He has been taken to hospital. The boy's injuries are not currently known but a police spokesman said that the incident has been reported as a minor road traffic accident, suggesting they are not serious.
