THREE fire engines rushed to a block of flats in Langley Green yesterday (Monday) after leaking gas caught fire in the ceiling of a communal corridor. Two crews from Crawley Fire Station were joined by a third from Horsham at the flats in Squirrel Close at about 11.30am. A fire broke out and was fuelled by gas leaking from a burnt internal gas pipe in the ceiling of the communal corridor on the first floor. FIREFIGHTERS wearing breathing apparatus have used a hose reel to put out a blaze that engulfed a scooter after it was deliberately set alight. One appliance from Crawley Fire Station was sent to a wooded area off Broadwood Rise, Broadfield, at 5.56am today (Wednesday). Two firefighters wore breathing apparatus to extinguish the flames with a hose reel. The scooter was completely destroyed in the blaze and the fire crew were away from the scene by 6.12am.

FIREFIGHTERS were called out after smoke was seen issuing from a property in Southgate. One fire engine was sent to Thatcher Close at 7.53pm yesterday (Tuesday) so firefighters could investigate.
