A MIDDLE-AGED man has been jailed for historic sexual abuse offences.
Nigel Smith, 49, from Livingstone Road, Horsham, was sentenced to four-and-a-half years' imprisonment when he appeared at Lewes Crown Court last Friday (February 6) having originally been charged with seven counts of indecent assault on a child under 16, two counts of indecency with a child and one of actual bodily harm.

Golf buggy torched in suspected arson attack
A GOLF BUGGY was set alight in a suspected arson attack in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday).
A crew from Crawley Fire Station was sent to deal with the blaze at Cottesmore Golf Club, on Buchan Hill, Pease Pottage, at 6.59am.
Having arrived in one fire engine, the crew found the fire already out.
They stayed on the scene for around half an hour to ensure the blaze would not reignite.
Firefighters believe the golf buggy had been deliberately set alight.

Resident opens door of Furnace Green home and is met by 3...
A RESIDENT returned to their home in Marion Close, in Furnace Green, to make the terrifying discovery that three burglars were inside the property.
The three white males, aged between 16 and 20, had broken into the house through a rear door.
When the homeowner returned, at 6.15pm last Wednesday, the gang fled through the front door.
It isn't yet known if anything was taken.

THE REASON a helicopter was in the skies over Crawley last night has been revealed.
Residents reported seeing the aircraft in-flight and questioned why it was overhead.
A spokeswoman for Sussex Police has said that it wasn't the police helicopter.
