THE acting head teacher at a troubled secondary school restored staff morale within just two weeks of taking over.
Thomas Bennett Community College was left leaderless when former head Ben Smith abruptly left the Tilgate school just two weeks into the new term.
Staff morale was said to be at rock bottom, with the school's exam results having dipped dramatically in the past year.

A BODYBUILDER once crowned Mr Britain has spoken of his relief at being diagnosed with ADHD after living with the condition all his life.
Jason Wicker displayed many of the typical signs of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder as a child but so little was known about it at the time he was simply labelled naughty.

Crash on M23 near Gatwick causing heavy traffic
AN earlier collision is still causing heavy traffic from Junction 8 to 9.
All lanes have now reopened but traffic is queuing and drivers are advised to allow plenty of time for their journey.
On the M25 a collision on the clockwise carriageway is also causing delays with traffic slow moving from Junction 5 to the scene of the crash between Junction 8 and 9. There are delays of around 40 mins.

Licensed taxi drivers furious that private hire drivers are using...
TAXI drivers have held a crunch meeting with the council over a number of issues affecting their livelihood in Crawley.
On October 22 members of the Hackney Carriage Association - the group of drivers licensed by Crawley Borough Council - met with councillors and officers at the Town Hall.
The biggest concerns they had were around drivers illegally touting for business in Crawley, and private hire vehicles using taxi ranks, which are only supposed to be used by licensed drivers.

BREAKING NEWS: Two found dead at Broadfield home - two people...
TWO people are in custody at Crawley Police Station after two bodies were found at a Broadfield home.
Sussex Police were called to an address in Holman Close at about 8.40am yesterday (Sunday). It has emerged this morning that two people were found dead at the property and police have taken two other people into custody.
Sussex Police are yet to provide further information on the incident so at this stage it is not known what the pair were arrested for.

Horley woman arrested in connection with hit-and-run death
A WOMAN from Horley has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and failing to stop following the death of a cyclist.
The cyclist, named as Robert Worrall, was killed in a hit and run at about 1.25am yesterday (Sunday) morning in Beare Green, Surrey.
The young man was found by a member of the public, lying in the road on the A24 close to the Esso petrol station.
Emergency services raced to the scene but the man was pronounced dead.

Broadfield pedestrian crossing set to be moved 3 metres - at a...
A PLANNED pedestrian crossing in Broadfield that a pensioner spent two years campaigning for is likely to have to be moved three metres down the road – at an additional cost of up to £35,000.
Funding for the crossing, on Pelham Place, was agreed last October, after Roger Duke, 70, had collected signatures and built up support for one within the neighbourhood.

A HEROIN overdose appears to be the likely cause of two people's deaths in Broadfield yesterday (Sunday) morning.
There has been no confirmation of the cause of deaths but police have revealed that the two people arrested over the deaths have been arrested on suspicion of supplying a class A drug, namely heroin.

A HUNT for the perfect shot of a fox became an inadvertent trap for an award-winning photograph of a tawny owl.
Each year the Sussex Wildlife Trust runs a competition to find the best depiction of the county's wildlife through a lens.
The 2014 winner has just been announced and Phil Winter, from Ringer, scooped the top prize for his dramatic picture of a tawny owl.

Driver fined £250 after being caught drug driving
A DRIVER has been fined £250 for getting behind the wheel while under the influence of drugs.
James McDonald, from Stone Cross, in East Sussex, was stopped while driving on the M23 near Gatwick on August 11.
The 22-year-old pleaded guilty at Crawley Magistrates' Court on October 22. He was ordered to pay £85 costs and banned from driving for 12 months.

Pensioner drives BMW wrong way along A23 for several miles
A MAN is being assessed by health workers after he drove the wrong way down the A23 towards Brighton for several miles.
The 73-year-old from Burgess Hill got onto the dual carriageway shortly before 10am today (Monday) after going in the wrong direction down a slip road at Hickstead.

THE police helicopter has been dispatched in the hunt for a group of men on-the-run following a car crash in Crawley.
Sussex Police are searching for three men who fled in Crawley earlier this afternoon (Monday, November 10).
Officers were called at 4.15pm after a silver Vauxhall Corsa crashed into Tollgate Hill roundabout.
Three men were seen to run from the vehicle.
