AN enormous fire has destroyed 60 acres of Ashdown Forest - the equivalent of 24 full-sized football pitches.
Firefighters and police were called to the inferno at approximately 2pm yesterday (Wednesday) following a report of a large fire in the forest.
At least 26 emergency vehicles, including 16 fire engines, were sent from 23 fire stations across West Sussex, East Sussex and Kent.
More than 100 firefighters battled the blaze until 11pm with some dousing the area through the night.
