The Met Office and Environment Agency have issued weather and flood warnings for tonight.
A yellow warning for wind and rain is currently in force from the Met Office, covering Sussex and the South East of England in general.
The alert is valid until 5am tomorrow (Thursday, February 13) morning.
A Met office spokesman said: "A vigorous area of low pressure will move northeastwards across Ireland and southern Scotland during Wednesday evening, clearing eastwards early on Thursday.
