MARKS & Spencer will not be opening a store in East Grinstead's new Queens Walk development.
The department store is said to favour opening stores in city centres rather than towns, where retailers have suffered in recent years due to the economic slowdown.
The news comes as developers also ruled out Debenhams as a potential name to come to the town.
