A CONTROLLED explosion has been carried out on Northgate Playing Field.
A bomb disposal team was called out at about 2pm after a bomb fuse was taken to Crawley Police Station.
A large hole can be seen in the playing field just off of Shaws Road.
Pat Teague, who lives in Woodfield Road, said several residents came out of their homes after hearing a "large boom".
She said: "Everybody came out. We all thought it was a big crash because we've had several on Woodfield Road in the past...
