FORMER Crawley MP Nicholas Soames has been knighted by the Queen during a ceremony at Buckingham Palace last week.
The 66-year-old grandson of Sir Winston Churchill said it was "one of the greatest days of my life" following the ceremony which took place in the palace's grand ballroom last Thursday.
Sir Nicholas, who has been in politics for more than 31 years, was MP for Crawley from 1983 until 1997.
He then became MP for Mid Sussex, a position he has held ever since.
