SMOKE was seen coming from a plane which had suffered a malfunction as it came in to land at Gatwick Airport just after midnight this morning (Sunday).
Firefighters based at Gatwick initially escalated the incident and a fire engine was also sent out from Crawley Fire Station.
However it was later downgraded and the Crawley crew was not needed. The plane landed safely but smoke was seen issuing from the undercarriage and was escorted to a stand by the Gatwick fire service.
