AN AVID bookworm has become the first child at his school to read one million words since the launch of an innovative challenge.
Alex Kitcherside, 10, from Broadfield, has been participating in an "accelerated reader" scheme at Broadfield East Junior School since March and has just racked up the impressive total.
The project was introduced to increase pupils' enjoyment of reading.
